International Women's Day 2017 observed across the world 8 March: International Women's Day The 2017 International Women's Day ((IWD)) was observed across the world on 8 March 2017. The year's theme for the Day is Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030. The idea of the theme is to consider how to accelerate the 2030 Agenda, building momentum for the effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal number 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; and number 4: Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning. The theme focuses on new commitments under UN Women’s Step It Up initiative. International Women's Day: Celebrating India’s women scientists who made India proud A few of the key targets of the 2030 Agenda: • By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and Goal-4 effective learning outcomes.
• By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education.
• End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere.
• Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation.
• Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation. International Women's Day Celebrations in India The 2017 International Women's Day was observed in India by conferring the Nari Shakti Awards to 31 individuals and organisations that are working towards empowering women. The President of India Pranab Mukherjee presented the awards at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. International Women’s Day: Women Empowerment Schemes of Narendra Modi Government Google Doodle Honours 13 remarkable women Google’s latest doodle also presented its tribute to all the women on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2017. In its doodle, Google presents creative photo slideshow of sorts, invoking those women who have broken new ground in their field of expertise. The 13 women who have been showcased in the doodle through art are Lotfia ElNadi, Ida B Wells, Ada Lovelace, Sally Ride, Lina Bo Bardi, Cecilia Grierson, Frida Kahlo, Miriam Makeba, Olga Skorokhodova, Halet Cambel, Lee Tai-young, Rukmini Devi Arundale and Suzanne Lenglen. Arundale is the only Indian in the list of these 13 women. She was a Bharatanatyam dancer and a choreographer and was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956.
