👍👍👍India elected to the Highest United Nations Statistics for 4 year term beginning on 2024.....👍👍👍

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) is responsible for coordinating the production and dissemination of official statistics at the global level. The main function of the UN statistics is to provide accurate, reliable, and timely statistical data and analysis on a wide range of issues related to social, economic, and environmental development.

The UN statistics help member countries and other stakeholders to:

Monitor progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other international development targets;
Develop evidence-based policies and programs to address development challenges;
Facilitate international comparisons and benchmarking of countries' performance;
Inform public debate and decision-making on global issues.
The UNSD also provides technical assistance and capacity-building support to national statistical systems, particularly in developing countries, to improve the quality and availability of data. Additionally, it fosters international cooperation in statistical activities and standards, ensuring that statistical methods and practices are harmonized and comparable across countries and regions.

ESTABLISHMENT

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) has its roots in the Statistical Office of the League of Nations, which was established in 1923 to collect, analyze, and disseminate statistical information on economic, social, and other issues. After the League of Nations was dissolved in 1946, the United Nations (UN) was created, and the Statistical Office was incorporated into the new organization as the UN Statistics Division.

The UNSD has been in operation since the establishment of the UN in 1946 and has been providing statistical services to member countries and other stakeholders ever since. Over the years, the UNSD has evolved and expanded its mandate to cover a broader range of statistical areas, including the environment, gender, and population, among others, to support the global development agenda.

STATISTICAL AREAS

Statistical areas refer to geographic regions defined by national statistical agencies or other organizations for the purpose of collecting and analyzing statistical data. These areas are typically used to provide a standardized framework for reporting demographic and economic statistics.

Statistical areas may be defined at various levels of geographic aggregation, from large regions such as countries or states to smaller areas such as cities or neighborhoods. For example, in the United States, the Census Bureau defines metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, which are based on the population size and commuting patterns of cities and surrounding areas.

Other examples of statistical areas include census tracts, which are small geographic areas used for census data collection and analysis, and postal code areas, which are used in some countries to gather demographic and marketing data. The specific definition and boundaries of statistical areas may vary depending on the country and the purpose for which they are being used.

CENSUS BUREAU

The Census Bureau is a statistical agency of the United States government, responsible for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating data about the population, economy, and society of the United States. It is part of the United States Department of Commerce and is headquartered in Suit-land, Maryland.

The Census Bureau is responsible for conducting the decennial census, which is a constitutionally mandated survey that aims to count every person living in the United States. The bureau also conducts numerous other surveys and data collection efforts throughout the year, including the American Community Survey, the Economic Census, and the Current Population Survey.

The data collected by the Census Bureau is used by policymakers, businesses, researchers, and individuals to make informed decisions about a wide range of topics, including education, housing, healthcare, transportation, and public safety. The Census Bureau takes its responsibility to protect the confidentiality of individual responses very seriously and employs strict safeguards to ensure that personal information is not disclosed.
